Thank You for Supporting Yarn Shop Day on the 6th May
Sorry for the belated thank you’s for supporting me and the shop on Yarn Shop Day. I have a week away!
Now I’m back and trying to plough through my to-do list.
Yarn Shop Day, organised by the wonderful team at Let’s Knit, is held yearly to celebrate Independent, Bricks and Mortar Yarn Shops. As a B&M yarn shop we are asked if you would like to participate and to do so we sign up to 3 months advertising with Let’s Knit. This entitles us to have access to their publicity, media, free patterns which they get written specifically for those of us officially taking part, and some treats from yarn companies which we used in our raffle.
This year we celebrated by starting the day with a Spinning Demonstration.
Sarah and Theresa Demonstrated how to prepare your fibre for spinning and how to use a spinning wheel.
We managed to convince the Mayor of Sherborne to have a go on the wheel!
After our spinning demonstration, we had a quick change around and Holly joined us to run a crocheted flower workshop. The ladies made 30 flowers.
The flowers are bring used to make a flower arch to celebrate and support Sherborne in Bloom. This year we have got through to the national finals. This years colour theme is white, blue, pink and purple. The flower arch will be on display during judging in July and August. There will be a free pattern in the Sherborne Times June issue if you would like to join us in making some and we will also be running a drop in and make a flower session day on the 24th June, yarn, knitting and crochet patterns and cake available. We will also be selling the flowers off to raise money for Sherborne in Bloom while they are on display. We hope to raise at least £100 for them.
Oh, sorry, I’ve slightly diverted away from Yarn Shop Day!
Back to it. We had a raffle to raise money for The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. There were 9 prizes available, and we raised £64 for the charity.
We gave away lots of Mystery Prize envelopes which contained special offers and discounts to be used in the shop.
And there was a competition to win a ball of this beautiful WYS Yarn Shop Day colour way Sock Yarn – which was won by Jayne.
In the afternoon we also hosted a Knit and Natter session and there was lots of cake eaten and giggles had.
So once again, thank you so much for coming along, and supporting me and the shop, but not just on Yarn Shop Day, throughout the whole year.
